OTHELLO - A 23-year-old woman died Tuesday morning in a two-vehicle collision on state Route 17 about five miles north of Othello.

About 7:30 a.m., Rebecca Lynn Harvey, of Veradale, was driving south in a 2009 Ford Focus on the highway when she reportedly drove across the center line. Her vehicle was then struck by a 2004 Chevrolet pickup heading north, crushing the right side of her vehicle, according to the State Patrol. Both vehicles came to rest in the north lane after continuing more than 50 feet down the road after the collision.

Harvey was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the pickup, Garth Leon Peterson, 60, and his passenger, Alec Leon Alvarez, 18, both of Othello, received minor injures and were treated by Adams County Fire District 5 personnel. Neither was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, according to the State Patrol.

Both vehicles involved were reported totaled.

About a six-mile stretch of state Route 17 was closed for several hours and traffic was diverted along Road U Southeast and state Route 170 through Warden as law enforcement investigated the incident.

Harvey was working as a management fellow at Columbia Basin Health Association in Othello and graduated in May from Washington State University.
