Moses Lake defeats Eisenhower in OT thriller

YAKIMA - The Moses Lake Chiefs extended its winning streak to four games in a row after beating the Eisenhower Cadets 34-33 in an overtime thriller Friday night at Zaepfel Stadium.

Moses Lwwake remains in second place in the Columbia Basin Big 9 with a league record of 5-1 and an overall record of 6-1.

The Chiefs started slow, falling behind 14-0 in the first quarter, before rallying to tie the game 14-14 heading into intermission.

"On the road we've come out of the gate slow every time," head coach Todd Griffith said. "We just got a good group of kids. They want to win. They have put the time in the offseason to do what they needed to do and they're just a good group of kids. They want to win more than the next guy."

Moses Lake was able to score in the third quarter to take its first lead of the game 21-14, but the Cadets answered in the fourth quarter to tie the game again at 21-21.

"We knew that we could beat them," Griffith said. "Once we got them figured out we kind of took it to them."

Each team traded touchdowns in the first overtime, but neither was able to convert an extra point so the game remained tied 27-27.

Moses Lake scored another touchdown in the second overtime and a converted extra point gave the Chiefs a 34-27 lead. Eisenhower answered with thier own touchdown, but elected to go for a two-point conversion to win the game and was stopped by the Moses Lake defense.

The Chiefs are riding a four-game winning streak into Friday's showdown with first place Wenatchee at Lions Field and will look to avenge the early season 49-14 loss to the Panthers.

"If I was them I'd be worried," Griffith said. "We're definitely putting some points on the board and they've been struggling as of late to score."

Friday's game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
