Quincy man killed in tractor incident

| October 18, 2013 6:00 AM

MOSES LAKE - A 34-year-old Quincy man died Tuesday night when he was run over by a farm tractor at a farm about seven miles east of Moses Lake.

About 7:30 p.m., emergency responders were called to the area of Road 4 Northeast and Road R Northeast to property owned by Friehe Farms.

According to the sheriff's office, Steve Weil, an employee of Simplot Soilbuilders, was helping Friehe Farms prepare soil. For an unknown reason, Weil reportedly walked into the field and attempted to climb aboard a moving Case model 500 articulating tractor driven by Dusty Fondren, 26.

While attempting to climb aboard, Weil fell and was run over by the left rear tire. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the sheriff's office.

An autopsy was scheduled for Wednesday.

The state Department of Labor and Industries is investigating the incident.
