ROYAL CITY - Nalleli Arellano scored a goal 24 minutes into the game, and the Royal defense made it hold up for a 1-0 SCAC girls high school soccer win over Kiona-Benton last week.

The scoring play came on a combination of good soccer moves. Jackie Guadarrama forwarded the ball to Cynthia Cid-Beltran. She crossed it to the mouth of the goal, and Arellano booted it into the lower far corner.

"Ki-Be made us work to hold onto the lead, but the girls were able to handle the pressure," coach Jens Jensen said. "This is the first time I can remember our girls getting a win over Ki-Be."

The victory can be attributed to team defense. Royal goal keeper Guadalupe Guadarrama was called on for only one save over the entire 90 minutes.

Both offenses took eight shots, and Royal had three corner kicks to four for Ki-Be.

The Royal girls play at Mabton tonight, will host Warden on Thursday and travel to Ki-Be on Saturday.
