Holiday shopping event to benefit MLHS Band
MOSES LAKE - Basin residents can get a head start on their Christmas shopping during the Moses Lake High School Band Boosters' "Shop 'til You Drop" event this weekend.
Various vendors, including The Pampered Chef, Arbonne, Origami Owl, Katz Accessories and Jimmy's Bowtique, among others, will be at the MLHS Commons from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, said the Boosters' Lynn Townsend. The event is similar to a holiday shopping bazaar, she said.
"We've gathered a bunch of home-based sellers and there's also some people who do crafty things, so all those type of items," she said.
This is the first year the group is holding the "Shop 'til You Drop" event. A percentage of Saturday's sales will go back to the Band Boosters, Townsend said.
"The Boosters is the support group for the high school band and one of the things we help with is travel expenses," she said. "Right now a lot of the underclassman are raising money for a trip in 2015 down to California."
She said the group hopes to add "Shop 'til You Drop" to the band's list of annual fundraisers. The band also raises money with its Cyrus O'Leary pie sale and citrus fruit sale each winter.
Townsend said the event is a good way for people to get some of their Christmas shopping out of the way while supporting students at the same time. There are about 115 kids in the MLHS band this year, she said.
Besides school events, band members are also seen performing at various community events, Townsend said.
