Fresh News from MarDon
The fishing in the Potholes Recreation Area this October has been just as good as we thought it would be. We experienced some rapidly cooling weather which rapidly cooled the water temperatures and really turns on the fall bite. The walleye fishers are producing limits almost daily.
Walleye trollers are focusing on the mouth of Crab Creek, the face of the sand dunes, and the East and North East side of Goose Island. Baby Hot Lips, DC 13's, or Rapala Shad Rap's ( #5, #7) trolled in 15 to 25 feet of water are producing walleye limits. Troll these plugs at 2 to 2.5 MPH for our best results.
The trout are also biting in the front of the dunes as well as the east end of the O'Sullivan Dam.
Crappie and Perch fishing is still good off The MarDon Dock. Crappie measuring up to 13 inches have been reported by fishers.
The bass fishing is excellent. With the water level going up these fish are starting to move to the front of the sand dunes and feed on perch. Swim Baits and Crank Baits in a Perch Color would be your best bet for a smallmouth or largemouth bass.
