Victim identified in fatal crash Monday
MOSES LAKE - The truck driver who died Monday in a collision near Moses Lake was identified as a 37-year-old Kennewick man.
Grant County Coroner Craig Morrison identified the victim as Robert Valdez, who died when his truck and a semi-truck collided at the intersection of Roads O and 2 Southwest about 4 p.m. Monday. Morrison said Valdez died from blunt force trauma to his head, torso and extremities.
According to the sheriff's office, Valdez was driving a 1993 Peterbilt loaded with potatoes west on Road 2 Southeast. Dalgit Singh, 47, of Fresno, Calif., was driving a 2012 Freightliner south on Road O Southeast.
He allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign and Valdez collided with the trailer.
The impact tore the cab off of the Peterbilt.
Valdez was thrown from the truck and died at the scene, according to the sheriff's office. His truck spun out of controlled and rolled.
Singh's trailer and Valdez' Peterbilt were a total loss. Singh's Freightliner tractor was not damaged.
The collision is still under investigation by the Grant County Motor Traffic Unit. It was determined alcohol or drugs were not a factor in the crash.
Singh will be ticketed for failing to stop at a stop sign.
