| October 10, 2013 6:00 AM

Freda Josephine Dilley of Moses Lake, formerly of Royal Camp, died Saturday October 5, 2013 at the Columbia Crest Care center.

Freda was born on January 26, 1927 in Cortez, Colorado to Friedrich and Ida (Carver) Koppenhafer. In 1947 her family left Colorado and came to Oregon to pick strawberries. They finally settled in Sandy Oregon. She met her future husband, Howard Dilley, while picking strawberries for his father.

They were married on August 24, 1951 in Vancouver, WA. Their union was sealed for time and all eternity in the Cardston, Canada LDS Temple on April 16 1974. In 1966 the couple moved to Royal Slope to farm. After Freda's kids had all left home she was hired as a cook by the Royal City School District a job she enjoyed for many years. She worked as a housewife, farmer and school cook until she retired in the early 90's. Freda lost her husband Howard in May of 1993. After Howard retired from farming they lived for a short time in Quincy Wa before settling in Royal Camp. She stayed at Royal camp until an injury forced her to move to Columbia Crest Care center in October of 2012.

Freda was a member of the Royal First ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She was a primary teacher in the church and her favorite role was that of Ward Librarian, she loved genealogy and had done a lot of work with her family on their heritage. She was an avid bird fan and raised pheasants, Peacocks, guinea Hens and a myna bird. She enjoyed cooking at the school mainly because she could be around some of her grandchildren every day. Freda's favorite hobby was crocheting with reading a close second. Freda will be remembered as a bull headed person determined to be heard and to have her say, she was "very German".
