The Eagles skid continued for the second consecutive week, as they fell to 3-2 on the season, losing to the Wilbur-Creston Wildcats 60-34. After starting the year by rattling off three straight wins, the Eagles have hit a bump in the road and lost their first two league match-ups and now face a turning point in their season.

Riding the outstanding play of team captain David Odarchuk, the Eagles looked like a force to be reckoned with to begin the season, but with Odarchuk injured and major defensive woes, it is time to make some adjustments if they hope to get back to their winning ways and make a run at post-season play.

"David Odarchuk's knee injury kept him off the field on offense and that really hurt us as he is our leader on both sides of the ball," said head coach Joe Worsham. "He leads the team in rushing and in tackles, so not having him on the field half the time and playing hurt the other half effected our play. Right now it looks like he has some ligament damage and may require surgery."

The Wildcats came out with their sights set on the end zone and it didn't take long for them to get there, as Wilbur-Creston's quarterback Trystan Rosman connected with Mason Copeland from 38 yards out to score the first points of the contest. From there the Wildcats scored 24 unanswered points on an interception return for a touchdown, a 72 yard scoring run by Copeland and Rosman's second touchdown pass of the game.

"We are just having a hard time on defense and not tackling well. We gave up some big plays in the first quarter, with the interception return for a touchdown and then snapped the ball over our quarterback's head, which they recovered for a touchdown. So we dug ourselves into a deep hole early and couldn't manage to climb back out." Worsham said.

The Wildcats went into halftime with a 54-18 lead and all but had the game wrapped up before the second half began. The silver lining for the Eagles was that their defense started making some stops in the third and fourth quarters, holding the Wilbur-Creston offense to just six points. But the Wildcats opened up their depth chart and got underclassman some playing time.

While the Eagles simply gave up too many points to catch the Wildcats, they did score 34 points, led by quarterback Joe Cutshall who threw four touchdown passes; two to Winters and two to Kapalo, but the solid passing game wasn't enough to bring them back on Friday. Rosman lead the Wildcats with 196 passing yards and four touchdowns on the night in route to a 60-34 victory.

"I honestly thought we were prepared to play and beat Wilbur-Creston, so I am at a loss to explain why this happened. It was embarrassing and very frustrating. In the past two games, we have not been able to tackle anyone. We have to get this figured out this week or our season will be totally knocked off track." Worsham said.

After the 26 point loss, the Eagles now try to forget the past two weeks of dismal play and turn their attention to their week six opponent, Waterville. The Shockers enter the 1B Northeast tilt with an 0-4 record and are hungry to get a win. Both teams enter the conference bout with their backs against the wall and desperate for a victory. For Soap Lake, it will be the most important week of practice of the season. They will need to work past injuries and poor defensive play to get back to playing like the team of the first three weeks of the season and get back in the win column against a struggling Waterville squad.
