Description of current proposal:

Wanapum Dam Fish Bypass

Grant PUD is proposing to repair concrete damage caused by scour by using divers to access the damaged areas of the fish bypass and spillway apron at Wanapum Dam.

Repairing specific cracks and voids. In general this would entail saw cutting edges approximately 1-inch deep, cleaning out debris and placing hand packed underwater cement into the voids. The repair products are anticipated to be one of a number of underwater concrete products including HP Infrastructure Grout; 5 Star Hand-Pack Underwater Cement or SUBAC. Once the repairs are completed, inspections should be scheduled every 2 years to monitor performance.

Wanapum Spillway

The Project involves the repair of surficial scour damage to the concrete spillway apron and ogee at Wanapum Dam. The work will include the removal and disposition of loose rock and sediment in the work area, the removal of deteriorated concrete, the installation of reinforcing dowels and reinforcing steel, the installation of formwork for the new concrete and the placement and curing of concrete. The approved concrete mix will include an anti-washout admixture. The work will be similar in nature to the work completed at Priest Rapids Dam in 2006-2007 and as approved in the HPA for that work issued May 16, 2006 (Control No. 103187-2).

Removal and disposition will include any loose rock/sediment that has deposited on the apron in the work area, and any concrete removed to prepare the surface for the new concrete overlay. Disposition of material removed during construction will be to an approved upland disposal area.
