ML Parks and Recreation offers more to do this winter

MOSES LAKE - Winter classes in a number of activities, from yoga to photography, begin this week around the community. The classes are sponsored through Moses Lake Parks and Recreation.

The Learning Center, 701 Penn St., will be open each Monday and Thursday for a parent-child play group, beginning Monday and lasting through May 1. The class will be canceled on days when school is out. Classes are from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and are open to children ages 1 to 6. Cost is $35 for eight visits, $5 for each drop in visit and $2 for each additional child. Jennifer Robertson is the supervisor, and the program will include activities for parents and children.

The first of two yoga sessions begins Monday; the second begins April 7. Classes are open to people ages 18 and older and are held each Monday from 5:45 to 7 p.m. at the Learning Center. Cost is $28 per person for the October session and $49 per person for the April session, which lasts six weeks. Linda Lincoln and Kirk DeLong are the instructors.

Indoor soccer classes begin Tuesday at the Learning Center, and are scheduled each Tuesday and Friday through March, with a Christmas-New Year break. Classes are open to children ages 2 to 5. Classes begin at 9:15 a.m. for 2-year-olds, 10:15 a.m. for 3- and 4-year-olds and 11:15 a.m. for 5-year-olds. There's a maximum of 10 children per session. Cost is $35 per child, $30 per sibling, with the exception of the December class, which is $30 per child, $25 per sibling. Robertson is the instructor.

Kids kickboxing classes are scheduled for October and January, beginning Tuesday, and are open to children ages 5 to 16. Classes are Tuesday and Thursday at the MSI martial arts academy, 216 West Broadway, with children ages 5 to 10 from 5 to 5:45 p.m., and 11- to 16-year-olds from 5:45 to 6:30 p.m. Cost is $30 per child, per session. John McCabe is the instructor.

Zumba classes for adults are scheduled in October, January and February at the Learning Center; they begin Tuesday. Classes are Tuesday from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. and are $42 per person per session. Classes must have a minimum of three people. Karen Correia is the instructor.

A "Cardio Kickboxing" class is scheduled for October, beginning Tuesday, and January at MSI. Classes are from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, and are $45 per person per session. Students must be at least 16. McCabe is the instructor.

A class in hula hooping and jump roping is scheduled for October, beginning Wednesday, and January at the Learning Center. Classes are Wednesday from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. and are open to children ages 8 and older. Cost is $30 per child per session, $25 per sibling. Tasha Sylvester is the instructor.

"Hoopster Tots," an exercise class using basketball, begins Wednesday with sessions scheduled from October through March. The classes are Wednesday and are open to children ages 3 to 6. Classes will be from 9:45 to 10:30 a.m. for 3-year-olds, and 10:45 to 11:30 a.m. for 4- and 5-year-olds. Classes are $35 per child per session, $30 for each sibling, except the December session, where prices are $30 per person and $25 per sibling. Robertson is the instructor, and there's a maximum of 10 students.

Novice photographers ages 16 and older are invited to a class beginning Wednesday, and held each Wednesday through Nov. 6. Each class is from 6 to 8 p.m. and is $40 per person for the entire series. Class is at the Learning Center and Eric Hurst is the instructor.
