OTHELLO - An Othello woman was struck and killed by a car Tuesday night after getting out of her vehicle following a rear-end collision on state Route 17 near Othello.

About 10:15 p.m. Tuesday, Maria E. Farias, 49, was driving south on the highway in a 1996 Honda Accord. She rear ended a vehicle stopped for another vehicle trying to turn left.

Following the collision, Farias reportedly exited her vehicle to contact the other driver when she was struck by another vehicle heading south on the highway, according to information released by the State Patrol Wednesday.

Farias was pronounced dead at the scene.

Juan A. Labra, 18, of Othello, who was the driver of the 2000 Volkswagon Golf that struck Farias, was uninjured after also colliding with Farias' vehicle. His passenger, Maria D. Perez, 24, of Othello, was injured and transported to Samaritan Hospital in Moses Lake, according to the State Patrol.

The State Patrol is still investigating the incident and has yet to determine a cause or if any charges could be recommended for the drivers involved.
