Dennis Leon Knowles

| October 3, 2013 6:00 AM

Dennis Leon Knowles, a 65 year old former Carey, Idaho resident, passed away suddenly on Sunday, September 29, 2013 with his family at his side in Spokane, Washington. He was born on February 25, 1948 in Wendell, Idaho, the first born child of Leo Thomas and Gloria (Holt) Knowles, and attended schools in Shoshone, Idaho. He lived in Shoshone until he moved to Carey in the 1970s, where he continued to work for the Idaho Department of Transportation. He retired 10 years ago from IDT and continued living in Carey until he moved to Moses Lake, Washington this past year to live with his daughter and her family.

Dennis was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed salmon and steelhead fishing along the Salmon River and trout fishing in the streams, creeks and reservoirs throughout the region. He loved hunting deer and elk all over the area's sagebrush uplands and forested mountains and chased the elusive chukars across the foothills of southern Idaho. His pickup and camp trailer could be seen parked at a fishing hole or a hunting spot during all four seasons of the year. Dennis loved the outdoors immensely and sought the peace and serenity he found there.

He loved his time with his daughter, grandkids and son in law and shared many of the same interests with them including hunting, fishing, camping, dutch oven cooking, chipotle tabasco sauce and relentlessly teasing one another. It was a joyous occasion in his life when he moved from Carey to live with them. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Dennis is survived by his mother Gloria Knowles of Kimberly, Idaho; his "one in a million" daughter Jessie Lee (Dave) Pelham and his two grandchildren Ashlyn Lavon Hayes and Johnathan Randall Hayes of Moses Lake, Washington; his brother Ken (Ruth) Knowles of Burley, Idaho and his sister Debbie Keller of Twin Falls, Idaho. He was preceded in death by his father Leo Knowles.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 5, 2013 at the Shoshone Idaho cemetery under the care and direction of Demaray Funeral Service. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to any lung or heart organization.
