Edrun Sofie "Bobbie" Sandberg, 88, passed away peacefully September, 25th 2013 at Samaritan Hospital with family by her side. Bobbie was born in Skoppum, Norway on March 28, 1925 and immigrated to the United States in 1951 at the age of 26. She spent her first years here in western Washington where she met her husband Harold O. Sandberg. After living in Bremerton for some years, Harold, Bobbie and their son Steven moved to Moses Lake in the fall of 1954 and became long time residents. Having limited education in Norway Bobbie worked hard to obtain her Associate's Degree from Big Bend and was proud to graduate in 1971. She ran her own Drapery business for many years and made drapes for many of the local businesses and residents. She enjoyed being creative and making art and embroideries. She was a painter, a stain glass artist and wonderful seamstress. When she retired, she volunteered at Samaritan Hospital and Pioneer Medical Center. She always stayed active and loved to travel all over the world. Her most memorable trips were the two she took to Antarctica between the ages of 80 and 85. Fifty years ago, Bobbie was the co-founder that helped start the local Sons of Norway lodge and helped with many of their functions. She was quite the card player and played in various women's groups for many years. She walked almost every day in the park with her canine companion Nova, who was always by her side. Bobby loved many things, but loved her family most of all. She lived to love her family, her son and his wife, their two children and her two great-grandsons. She really enjoyed being a great-grandmother, it gave her so much joy. She touched many lives, and all who knew her have many fond and loving memories of this strong, Norwegian woman that had a heart of gold.
Bobbie is preceded in death by her loving husband Harold Sandberg who passed in July of 1994. She is survived by her son Steven and daughter in-law Laurie of Yakima; grandson Benjamin of Kentucky; granddaughter Christina and grandson in-law Toni along with two great-grandsons Gunnar and Aksel of Chicago. She is also survived by her sister Herdis in Skoppum, Norway and many nieces and nephews in Norway and Sweden. She will be truly missed by all of us, her family and friends.
We would like to thank the Samaritan Doctors and Nurses for the excellent care they gave her in her final days. And we would also like to thank Assured Hospice and Kayser's Chapel for the help and kindness they have shown us.
Memorial donations can be made in Grandma's memory to the Samaritan Hospital Foundation.
