MATTAWA - Unless there is an unforeseen drastic shift in the numbers before Nov. 26, the Wahluke School District maintenance and operation levy has passed, and Warren Small has won a seat on the Royal School Board.

According to the Grant County elections office, there were still about 300 ballots to be counted on Nov. 7. This was a countywide number that was not likely affect the outcomes in South County. Election results will be validated on Nov. 26.

As of Nov. 7, the Wahluke School District levy was winning with 54.55 percent of the vote. That was the same percentage of votes favoring Small over Katie Christensen in a race for a seat on the Royal School Board. Small had 384 votes to 320 votes for Christensen.

In a race for a Mattawa City Council seat, Wendy Lopez had 31 votes to 11 votes for Betty Webster. In a race for a seat on the Royal City Council, Lisa Renteria had 58 votes to 24 for Tiffany Workinger.

In statewide issues, Intiative 522, the genetically modified foods initiative, was defeated with 51.75 percent of the vote. In Grant County it had 75.29 percent "no" votes.
