MOSES LAKE - Applications are now being accepted for scholarships from the Big Bend Community College Foundation for the 2014-15 academic year. Application deadline is March 14; only complete applications will be considered, college officials said.

Applications are available online at the college website, in the college financial aid office and in the counseling offices in local high schools. Foundation officials manage more than 70 scholarships, and this year all of them have been combined into one application, Doug Sly, the college's public information officer, said.

The foundation distributed about $128,000 in scholarships to 119 BBCC students for the 2013-14 academic year, foundation executive director LeAnne Parton said. "The foundation has scholarship opportunities for high school graduates, professional-technical, transfer and part-time students," she said.

Applicants must submit transcripts and at least three current letters of recommendation as part of the application packet, Sly said. Because all scholarships are on one form, applicants must pay close attention to ensure they're finding all possible scholarship opportunities, he said.

Applicants also should ensure they meet the criteria of each scholarship they're applying for, he said.

The foundation manages scholarships for nursing, aviation, agriculture, math and science, education and most professional and technical programs, Sly said.

In addition, many scholarships are available to all potential and current students, he said.

The foundation is supported in part through the Cellarbration fundraiser each May, Sly said.

The even has raised more than $800,000 for scholarships in the last 12 years, he said.
