Wahluke football finishes with winning record

MATTAWA - Tired from the long drive, the Wahluke High School football team had to come back from a 7-0 deficit at Goldendale Friday night to win, 27-13, and finish the season with a 6-4 record.

The Warriors scored the next three touchdowns to take a 21-13 lead to the halftime break. They scored again in the third period to put the game away.

"I am incredibly proud of our senior class, which battled the entire year and led us to our first winning season since 2008," coach Brycen Bye said.

Wahluke got scores from four different players. Daniel Corrales Scored from 1 yard in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Steven Machuca caught a 34-yard pass from Arturo Salazar. Martin Tello added a 3-yard touchdown run.

The final warrior touchdown came in the third quarter on a 5-yard run by Brian Anaya.

"This game was a great way to conclude our season," Bye said. "As it was the entire year, each and every player on our team made big plays to make this victory happen."

  • Martin Tello, Collin Ahmann and Alex Chiprez each made an interception.
  • Daniel Corrales, Steven Machuca, Martin Tello and Bryan Anaya each scored touchdowns. Arturo Salazar threw for a touchdown.
  • Jonah Gallacci, Salvador Gonzalez, Eduardo Ortiz, Omar Loera, Jack Yorgesen, Juan Mendoza and Michael Coulson led a front 7 that held Goldendale to 45 yards rushing.
  • Juan Mendoza, Jonah Gallacci, Salvador Gonzalez, Joel Salas, and Eduardo Ortiz, and Jack Yorgesen paved the way on the offensive line for 270 rushing yards.
  • Martin Tello and Alex Anaya combined for 138 yards from the fly sweep position.
