Chiefs bowl over Sunnyside

MOSES LAKE - Moses Lake girls bowling kicked of its regular season with a resounding win over Sunnyside Tuesday at Lake Bowl.
The Chiefs totalled 1,748 pins winning the first two regular games as well as the first Baker game.
"I'm really pleased with them," head coach Billy Brice said. "Still looking forward to a great year."
Moses Lake came out strong knocking down 829 pins, almost 80 pins more than last year's average of 750. Sophomore Kim Mulder and junior Ashleigh Hash each bowled games of 181 to lead the Chiefs.
"First game started off pretty good," Brice said.
The Chiefs struggled in the second game after a few bad breaks and missed opportunities. Brice felt the girls lost some enthusiasm after missing key spares. However, Moses Lake still won the second game 752-650. Hash once again led the Chiefs with a 161, while Mikayla Moreno added 158 pins.
Moses Lake was able to take the first Baker game and win 3-0.
"We work very hard on our fundamentals," Brice said.
Brice believes the Chiefs can be a power this season in the Columbia Basin Big 9. Last Friday, the Chiefs were able to win the Moses Lake Invitational with a score of 2,395 pins. Moses Lake's closest competition was Eisenhower at 1,938 pins. The invitational included teams from the Big 9, Mid Columbia Conference and Central Washington Athletic Conference.
Brice has his team focused on taking one match at a time, but sees great potential.
"We've got plans on going deep this year," he said.
