Former Moses Lake resident appreciates town's kindness

| November 8, 2013 5:00 AM

A recent act of kindness from Dave's Computers and Repair embodied the best of small town values and personal service that I took for granted growing up with in Moses Lake...service that, unfortunately, has become all too rare.

On October 17th, my mom died from pancreatic cancer, and her wish was for an informal celebration of her life.

I spent the following week pouring through photos to create a worthy Power Point tribute, and I scoured Seattle to find an adapter that would allow my laptop to display the slide show on her old-school TV.

On the morning of the event, I tried to attach the adapter but it didn't fit my laptop!

Words not suited for a family newspaper were uttered.

Panicked, I called Dave's Computers and Repair and explained my dilemma. They cheerfully said, "Come on down, let's see

what we can do."

Dave's solution fit my computer, but not my mom's TV. He then asked why I needed to use her TV, and I explained that it was to show a slide show tribute of my late mom in a few hours.

Then something wonderful happened.

Dave went back into his shop, picked up a flat screen TV, a couple of cables and said, "Here, take this."

Stunned, I asked Dave what the rent would be, and he said, "On the house, just bring it back when you're done. We close at six."

I'd never met Dave or set foot in his business, and he didn't know me from Adam. The big flat screen was awesome, allowing dozens of people to reflect, laugh and cry watching the slide show of my mom's life.

The wonderful day honoring my mom would not have been a success without the smarts, service and generosity of Dave's Computers and Repair.

Our family is forever touched and grateful. Thank you Dave!
