Candidates announced for MLIRD elections

MOSES LAKE - Moses Lake Irrigation and Rehabilitation District voters will decide who will fill three director positions during annual elections next month.

One of the positions is the seat currently held by director Ron Covey, whose term expires this December. The other two positions are new positions, created when ratepayers voted to increase the number of directors from three to five last December.

MLIRD staff announced Tuesday that six candidates will appear on the ballot this December.

Covey and David Skaug will be running against each other for Covey's current seat, which is a three-year term beginning next January.

Mary Perry, William Bailey, Larry Tracy and Jeff Foster are the candidates vying for one of the two new director positions.

The top vote-getter will receive a three-year term beginning in January. The candidate who comes in second will receive a two-year term, also beginning next January, according to the MLIRD.

Elections take place this year on Dec. 10. However, ratepayers will have an opportunity to meet the candidates before elections during a public forum Nov. 19.

The MLIRD candidates forum takes place from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Moses Lake Civic Center, located at 401 S. Balsam St.
