YAKIMA - Moses Lake girls soccer has a new single-season goals record.

Junior forward Alysha Overland shattered the previous record of 23, scoring 25 goals despite missing one match recovering from a concussion.

"It's extremely special for her to accomplish her goal," head coach Ric Char said. "She had that in sight all year."

The Chiefs closed out the regular season with a 2-0 win against Davis. Moses Lake finished the season undefeated in the Columbia Basin Big 9 at 10-0 and 11-4 overall.

"Today I've never been more nervous than all season playing Davis with everything on the line, with the possibility that we could go undefeated," Char said. "Playing a tough team at home at Davis it's always a tough venue to play at."

Thursday's match was close throughout with both teams tied at 0-0 going into halftime. In the second half, Overland was able to score her record breaking goal in the 50th minute off an assist from junior midfielder Lizzy McGraw. Overland's 25th goal of the year came in the 68th minute assisted by freshman forward Bella Lundberg.

With the record taken care of, Overland can now strictly focus on helping her team win a district championship and advancing to the state tournament.

"It's a huge relief for her, now she doesn't have to worry about it," Char said. "Saw a huge sigh of relief on her when I was talking to her about it about it congratulating her today. She's super humble and she knows that she needs the team and that record is as much of the team's win as anything because without her teammates she definitely wouldn't have got there."

The Chiefs are a dangerous team heading into districts as there are multiple contributors on offense. Senior forward Caylah Lunning as well as junior midfielders McKenna Walker and Stephanie Overland all have the ability to break down the defense.

"We've got multiple options that we can do and put girls in different spots and a couple different formations that we can tweak," Char said. "If one thing's not working we're just fortunate enough to have extremely athletic and skilled girls that we can put there to be successful for us."

The Chiefs will have homefield advantage throughout districts and will host Eastmont Nov. 5 at 6 p.m. Moses Lake outscored Eastmont 11-1 in the two previous meetings this season.

"We've set our goals up to at least win the first round of state," Char said. "Beyond that it's all going to be exciting to have. The potential is there it just is a matter of being in the close games and competing because from here on out every single team is going to be extremely good."
