Moses Lake girls track 8th at State Meet

TACOMA - Sadie Nielsen lived up to her No. 1 ranking in the 4A discus competition as she was crowned state champion with a throw of 136-00 in the event at the Washington State Track and Field Meet over the weekend at Mt. Tahoma High School in Tacoma.

Nielsen, along with the 4x200 relay team of Alysha Overland, Diamond Ransom, Caylah Lunning and London Cleverly that placed third with a time of 1:43.45, set the pace for the Chiefs who finished 8th out of 19 schools that took part in the meet.

Moses Lake finished with a team total of 26 points. Federal Way took first with 42. Richland and Garfield tied for third with 36.

"I thought the girls did an awesome job," coach Nicki Weiland said. "It was fun to see how well they competed. They got a lot of compliments from the other coaches."

"We had a great season taking the league and district titles and placing 8th at state," Weiland said. "We had a lot of girls set PR's this year who didn't make it to the state meet, but like I've said before, it takes solid efforts from everyone for us to succeed. We have a great coaching stafff that get the best out of the kids.We are losing Sadie, London, Keiley (Garcia) and Gloria Saucedo to graduation, But we are a young team on which to build on for many years to come."

Cameron Ballard, the only Chief to qualify for the boys team, finished 14th in the triple jump competition.
