Car crashes into Moses Lake home

MOSES LAKE - A routine traffic stop Wednesday led to a Moses Lake man's arrest for kidnapping and burglary.

About 7 p.m. Wednesday, a Moses Lake police officer attempted to stop an 80s model Toyota Celica in the area of Fourth Avenue and Beech Street for a traffic infraction. The vehicle, allegedly driven by Kayla J. Gaskill, 22, of Moses Lake, briefly pulled to the side of the road but took off again, according to police reports.

The officer again attempted to stop the vehicle, which headed south on Division Street and began to speed away. The officer stopped the pursuit in the 1100 block of Division Street and returned to patrol.

The officer was then flagged down by a subject who advised a vehicle had wrecked at the corner of Belair Drive and Division Street, according to reports. The officer found the white Celica had crossed a yard and struck the front of a home on the corner of the intersection. The vehicle was allegedly traveling at a high rate of speed and could not make the turn, leaving tire marks on the road, through the yard.

Witnesses told the officers a man and a woman fled from the vehicle. A third person, a 23-year-old woman, was also in the vehicle during the incident and stayed on scene when the vehicle wrecked.

Damage to the home included a broken front window and some siding. The yard and a large shrub were also damaged, according to reports.

More officers were called and found the two people who allegedly unlawfully entered two separate fenced backyards. The two subjects also attempted to hide in sheds, according to reports.

Lupe Vasquez, 36, of Moses Lake, was arrested and booked in Grant County Jail on suspicion of kidnapping, burglary and second-degree domestic violence assault.

Further investigation indicated Vasquez allegedly held Gaskill against her will and forced her to drive away after the initial traffic stop.

Vasquez was also wanted for a felony warrant, according to reports.

Gaskill was not booked into jail and officers are still investigating the incident.
