Manweller appointed to Select Committee on Pension Policy

OLYMPIA - Thirteenth District Rep. Matt Manweller has been appointed to the Select Committee on Pension Policy by Speaker of the House Frank Chopp.

“I am pleased to be part of this committee and look forward to working on solutions to strengthen the state’s pension system,” Manweller, R-Ellensburg, said. “We owe it to our retirees that the pension system is financially stable, but we also need to examine ways to lower costs or make the system more efficient. The pension system is a big part of our operating budget.”

The Select Committee on Pension Policy studies pension issues and policies affecting the state’s public employee retirement systems and makes recommendations to the Legislature.

The committee also receives the results of actuarial audits administered by the Pension Funding Council and reviews and makes recommendations to the Pension Funding Council regarding changes to retirement assumptions or contribution rates.
