Third Quincy shooting suspect pleads guilty

EPHRATA - The third and final suspect connected to the Quincy shooting of Ramiro Munoz Jr. in September 2011 is facing prison time.

Eddie Alvarez Hernandez, 22, pled guilty recently to first-degree rendering criminal assistance and tampering with a witness in Grant County Superior Court. The standard range for each count is 33-43 months and 17-22 months, respectively.

According to court documents, Alvarez Hernandez will be sentenced on June 4.

Alvarez Hernandez is the final member of a trio of suspects connected to the murder of Munoz to enter a guilty plea.

Earlier this month, 21-year-old Quincy man Erwin Vazquez pled guilty to rendering criminal assistance.

Vazquez's original charge of second-degree murder was downgraded as part of a plea agreement.

According to Grant County Prosecutor Angus Lee, Vazquez will serve time for the rendering criminal assistance charge as well as another charge which increases his sentence to a maximum of 6 years and 5 months.

The man who allegedly shot Munoz, Gerardo M. Valenzuela Navarro, 20, of George, was sentenced to 18 years and 4 months in prison after pleading guilty in March.

According to court documents, the murder stemmed from an argument that occurred at a family reunion in Quincy.

Vazquez reportedly confronted Munoz and asked why he had been distancing himself from the gang. Munoz was a former gang member who was trying to curb gang activity in Quincy while trying to cut ties with his gang.

According to witnesses, Vazquez ran away after he was told to leave the reunion. Reportedly, Munoz and two other men followed to ensure that he left.

While the men followed Vazquez, Valenzuela Navarro and Alvarez Hernandez allegedly came out of a nearby house.

According to the police report, Valenzuela Navarro allegedly fired two or three shots at the men.

Munoz reportedly told Valenzuela Navarro to not shoot because there was children nearby. According to court documents, Munoz reportedly challenged him to a fight instead.

Valenzuela Navarro alleged fired one more shot, killing Munoz.
