Special filing period set

GRANT COUNTY - A total of 133 candidates filed for open elected positions in Grant County Friday for November's elections, but 33 open positions do not have a candidate.
The Grant County Election Department is having a special 3-day filing period beginning Tuesday. Candidates can file in person between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the Grant County Election Department located on the second floor of the courthouse, Room 203 in Ephrata. Electronic filing is also available for the special period and can be completed by clicking on elections on the county website at www.co.grant.wa.us.
There are currently no candidates for one city council position in Electric City, Grand Coulee and Wilson Creek, and multiple city council openings in Hartline and Krupp, including the mayor position in both towns.
The Wahluke and Soap Lake school districts each have one position with no candidates filed.
One position is still open on the Grant County Hospital District 4 board in Soap Lake and multiple positions for Grant County Hospital District 5 in Mattawa.
Other vacant openings include several fire, park and recreation, water and cemetery districts.
A person filing a Declaration of Candidacy for an office must be properly registered to vote in the district represented by the office at the time of the filing.
A non-refundable filing fee equal to 1 percent of the salary of the position a person is filing for is required. If there is no salary for the position, there is no filing fee.
