Chiefs receive league honors

MOSES LAKE - The Chiefs softball team is having a remarkable year.
After finishing with a 20-4 overall record and capturing the Columbia Basin Big Nine league and district titles, Moses Lake is looking to put a stamp on its season with a state championship this weekend.
The hard work the Chiefs have put in the past few months has earned the respect from coaches around the conference with seven players named to the Big 9 All-League Team.
Voted First-Team All-League are pitcher Haylie VanLaethem, third baseman Jazmynn Jesse, catcher Tressa Radach, and outfielders Hailee Bishop and Briana Valdez. Shortstop Vanessa Rodriguez received Second-Team status, and outfielder Sadee Smigaj was named Honorable Mention.
Jesse was voted Offensive Player of the Year, Radach, Defensive Player of the Year, and Dave Gregory, the Chiefs skipper, was named Coach of the Year.
Moses Lake faces Bellarmine Prep at noon Friday in game one of the double-elimination 4A State Softball Tournament at the Merkel Sports Complex in Spokane.
