Many incumbents lack challengers in November election

GRANT COUNTY - Many of the incumbents for open Grant County positions will go unopposed for November's elections.

Moses Lake Mayor Bill Ecret, Councilmembers Karen Liebrecht, Brent Reese and David Curnel have all filed as well as a candidate in the 2011 election, Todd Voth. Voth filed for position 4 with Brent Reese, the only council position with two candidates. Ecret is also up for re-election for mayor early next year. The Moses Lake mayor is elected by councilmembers.

The five incumbents holding office with the Ephrata City Council, including Mayor Chris Jacobson, have filed for the fall election and will not have any challengers.

Quincy Mayor Jim Hemberry is up for re-election and will face competition from Patricia Naigle-Martin, who put her name in an hour before filings closed Friday. Councilmember Jeremy McCreary did not file for the fall elections. Newcomer Jeremy Seda will oppose Councilmember Paul Worley and Councilmember Jose Saldana will face David Day for position 5. Dustin Petersen, Matt Tait and Keith Paul Anstine all filed for position 6.

In Warden, Councilmember Darla Haworth filed again for position 3, running unopposed. Councilmember Annette Kalous did not file for re-election for position 2. Byron Starkey was the only candidate to file as Kalous' replacement.

The Moses Lake School District will have a new school director for position 2 as Lew Mason did not file. Anthony Mejía will face Oscar Ochoa for the position. Kevin Donovan will again fill the school director position 4.

Quincy School District Directors Tricia Lubach and Alex Ybarra are both seeking re-election unopposed.

In Adams County, Othello Mayor Tim Wilson will run for re-election, facing Shawn Logan and Shannon McKay. Councilmember Genna Dorow, position 1, will run unopposed. Councilmember Charles Garcia will face John Lallas for position 2 and Councilmember Kenneth Caylor will face Michael Crosier and Corey Everett for position 3.

Incumbents Juan Garza and Tony Ashton will run unopposed for Othello School District director positions. Current District 5 Director Stewart Hilmes will run against Roger R. Durkee. Isaac Tovar, director of district 4, did not file for re-election.
