LaPreal Chamberlain Payne

| May 22, 2013 6:00 AM

LaPreal Chamberlain Payne, age 85, quietly passed away in her home early Saturday morning, May 18, 2013. She was born April 20, 1928 in Orderville, Utah, being the sixth of 10 children born to Mark and Sally Chamberlain, with four brothers and five sistsers. LaPreal grew up in Orderville, and after graduating from high school she married Dale K. Payne. They were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple for time and eternity on February 25, 1960.

LaPreal and Dale are the parents of five children: Jan (Doreen) of Chandler, AZ, Kendle (Kathy) of Ephrata, Mark (Gracie) of Moses Lake, Eric (Rebecca) of Urbana, IL and daughter Karen Baadsgaard (Jay) of Yelm, she has 25 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren. LaPreal is also survived by a sister Elain and all of her children. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale, one granddaughter and one great great-grandson.

After their marriage, Dale and LaPreal resided in Vermillion, UT until 1955 when they moved their family to Warden. There they raised their children and farmed until 1988. By that time their children had moved to various parts of the world, so they moved 'home' to Orderville. They lived there for the next 21 years, serving in the community and in their church. In 2009 they returned to the Columbia Basin (Ephrata) where living accommodations were made at the home of their son, Ken, and daughter-in-law, Kathy. Here their needs could be met and they could enjoy closer association with members of their immediate family.

LaPreal's life was characterized by quiet, loving, unassuming service and self-sacrifice. Although she served in various Church callings throughout her life, she loved the little children of the Primary. Her dedication and patient, tender teachings about Heavenly Father, Jesus, and their prophets has blessed scores of her "little ones", and will, through them, touch many generations yet to come. Her love of family was paramount; her loving service to her husband, children, and grandchildren has influenced them for eternity. We admire and honor her as one of God's noble daughters.

A celebration of LaPreal's life will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in the LDS church in Ephrata. The family will receive relatives and friends in the Relief Society Room prior to the service. A service and burial will be held in Orderville, UT at a later day.

Please leave a memory or sign their online guestbook at www.scharbachs.com. Scharbach's Columbia Funeral Chapel, Quincy, is handling the service arrangements.
