Wahluke's Katelyn Peterson leads area's track qualifiers

CONNELL - Wahluke's Katelyn Peterson won two events at the South Central A Conference sub-district track meet here Friday to lead Wahluke and Royal qualifiers to district.

The district meet will be held at Naches this Friday, starting at 4 p.m. The top four at district in the sprints and the top eight in the field events and long-distance events will meet compete at Naches for slots at the state meet a week later.

Connell dominated sub-districts, winning the boys meet with 169 points and the girls meet with 197. Royal finished fourth in the boys meet, and Wahluke seventh. The Wahluke girls were third, and the Royal girls were sixth.

That best bet for making it to state for area athletes is Katelyn Peterson. She won the long jump with a leap of 16-1 and the triple jump with an effort of 35-4.

Royal and Wahluke got one first place each in the boys competition. Jacob Lee took first in the 800 for Royal with a time of 2:11.87. Saul Ramos took first for Wahluke in the 1600 with a time of 4:52.98.

Anahi Gomez took first place for Wahluke in the girls 1600 with a time of 6:15.13.
