SUNNYSIDE - Aaron Whalen shot 73, Bryan Heer carded 75, and Josh Johnson finished with an 85 to lead the Ephrata Tigers to the 2A District 5/6 Championship at the Par 72 Black Rock Creek Golf Course in Sunnyside May 14.

Whalen was the low round medalist and individual district champion. Heer finished third.

Whalen, Heer and Johnson will represent Ephrata at the 2A State Championship Tournament May 21 and 22 at the Par 72 Chambers Bay Golf Course, the site of the 2015 U.S. Open, in University Place, just outside of Tacoma. Zach Dwyer will serve as the first alternate.

"The guys are playing pretty good golf right now ... peaking at the right time," coach Greg Hewitt said. "Aaron parred hole No. 2 in a two-hole playoff to win the individual district championship. Bryan has really come on this year, and Josh has been real consistent. He injured his ribs a couple weeks ago and was questionable going into the tournament. Zach just missed the cut after losing a two-hole playoff (to Steven Anderson from Selah)."

Ephrata finished the district tournament with a team total of 319. East Valley (334) placed second, West Valley (336), took third, and Othello (373) finished sixth. Rounding out the tournament scores for the Tigers were Dwyer (86), Leo Huerta (90) and Elliott Boyd who shot 95.

Othello's Trevor Salsbury carded an 81 and is the lone Huskie to make it to the state tournament.

Tyler Amoruso shot 93, Ethan Towle turned in a 99, RJ Garza finished with 100, Cole Scott had a 119, and Caiden Hall ended his round with a 121.
