Moses Lake boys golf district champion

YAKIMA - Brody Milbrandt finished with a two round total 155, Brenden Cox was two strokes back with 157, and five other Chiefs placed in the top 15 to lead Moses Lake to the Columbia Basin Big Nine District 6 Championship at the Apple Tree and Elks Golf Courses in Yakima Monday.
The Chiefs finished with a team total of 246 points. Wenatchee (225.5) placed second, Eastmont (175) took third, Eisenhower was fourth with 143, and Davis finished fifth with 49.5.
Milbrandt was crowned district champion, Cox placed second, Nick Sutherland (162) was fifth, Tanner Montgomery (168) placed seventh, Trent Jones (171) claimed the eighth spot, Kellan Roellich (174) took 10th, and Dylan Greninger finished 15th overall with 183.
Milbrandt, Cox and Sutherland qualified for the State Tournament to be held May 21 and 22 at the Camas Meadow Golf Club near Vancouver.
"Qualifying three to state was great. We played in some high winds for both rounds and each course had it's unique characteristics really come into play," coach JR Cox said. "Brody was strong again and is playing very well. I think he could beat just about anyone right now and I can't wait to see him play in the tournament. Brenden scrambled throughout the day and made some crucial putts when he really needed them. Nick making it to state was fantastic. He hasn't been real happy with the way he has been playing, but has continued to practice hard, so his good scores were not a surprise to me. He is a flat competitor, and I don't think you should ever count him out of anything. He has made it to state two years in a row now."
Montgomery, having placed seventh, barley missed the cut as only the top six made it to the big stage.
"Tanner was so close to making it," Cox said. "Having only six spots doesn't give much room for error. I know he wasn't happy with it, but he has nothing to hang his head for. He has had a great season and one day of competition can't take that away from him. He was a big part of us winning the league title this year. Without him, I'm not sure we would could have won it. Trent played really well and showed he will be a big part of next year's team as we start another quest for the league title. Kellan and Dylan hung in there and battled the conditions. Both of those guys have a good future in the golf world, and next year will be big for both of them."
