Donald D. Howard "Chief"

Donald D. Howard "Chief", 69, of Moses Lake, WA, passed away May 7, 2013.

Don was born in Mobridge, South Dakota on April 9, 1944 to Charles and Tillie Howard and was enrolled as a member of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe.

Don attended McLaughlin Public School and after his school years he worked for various ranchers around the McLaughlin, South Dakota area. He then joined the Army National Guard and worked as a heavy vehicle truck driver and was honorably discharged on August 1, 1963. After that, he moved to Oregon and worked as a semi-truck driver before relocating to Bellingham, WA, were her worked for Intalco for several years. During that time he met his loving wife Nikkie "Jansen." They have shared 40 years together.

Chief then drove for several different logging and trucking firms before their final move to Moses Lake, WA, where they have resided for the past 20 years. During that time he drove for various local trucking firms. Don and Nikkie also owned and operated Arrow Star Concessions, which involved traveling to various events and fairs in the region. Don had a great passion for his dog, Lokata "Kooter", his two surviving sisters and his many collectibles.

Don was preceded in death by both parents and one sister. He is survived by his wife, Nikkie, his sons, Duane and Lorne of Hillsboro, OR, and "Buck" Cameron Howard of Moses Lake, WA, Daughter Brenda Roosma and her husband Drew of Othello, WA, seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held, May 18, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. at New Life Beginnings Center 318 W North Shore Dr. Moses Lake, WA . All funeral arrangements are being made by Carver Family Funeral Home.
