Shirley Mae Haberman

Shirley Mae Haberman, Moses Lake resident, passed away on the morning of Thursday, May 9, 2013. Shirley was born February 24, 1934 in Campbell, Nebraska, daughter of the late Francis and Augustine Horton. She was the eldest of four children and graduated from St. Cecelia's High School in Hastings, Nebraska.

In 1952 she met Gerald Haberman in Hastings, Nebraska and they married in 1953. Six children were born to this union: Greg, Susan, Angie, Daniel (Joe), Julie and Gerald John Jr. They made their home in Norfolk, then Hartington, then Hastings, NE. In 1962, the family moved to the Southern California area and settled in for over 20 years. The family grew up and Mom and Dad spent much of their time watching the children in sporting events and being involved in school and church functions. They loved to go dancing on Saturday nights and a Saturday steak barbeque was a regular happening during the warmer months. They made a few memorable road trips back to Nebraska with the whole family. In 1983, they followed two of their grown children to Wenatchee, WA. They lived in East Wenatchee for approximately twenty years and were members of Holy Apostles Catholic Church. Both were very devoted to their faith, and prayed the rosary together daily. Shirley loved to cook, and she was good at it. She loved making home cooked meals from scratch and enjoying them with extended family, especially the children and grandchildren. Everyone could never get enough of her famous Shirl's Swirls cinnamon rolls and other tasty desserts. She has worked at a variety of jobs through the years. An accounts payable clerk, motel housekeeper, and a kitchen hostess in a senior living facility were some of her occupations, but she was first and foremost a dedicated homemaker. In 2002 Shirley began to suffer from lower leg difficulties and was soon diagnosed with Transverse Myelitis leaving her lower body paralyzed.

In 2003, Gerald and Shirley celebrated 50 years of marriage. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Moses Lake, WA, where she was well cared for by her loving husband Gerald and son Joe. Shirley lost her loyal husband Jerry of fifty-six years in December of 2009.

She is survived by 2 sons: Joe Haberman of Moses Lake, Greg Haberman and wife Nona of Waterville, WA; 3 daughters: Sue and husband John Sanders of Mason, OH, Angie and husband Mark Kendall of Olalla, WA, Julie and husband Joe Segaline of Ephrata, WA, 16 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by husband Gerald, son Gerald John Jr., her parents Francis and Augustine Horton.

Holy Rosary will be prayed at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 18 at St. Rose of Lima Church in Ephrata immediately followed by the Mass of Christian Burial.
