Girls golf takes second in CBBN

SUNNYSIDE — After finishing third in the last POD match of the year at Black Rock Creek Thursday, and taking second place in the Columbia Basin Big Nine league standings, the Chiefs have just completed one of their best regular seasons in recent memory.

"This is the best team I've been around," coach Lonnie Brown said. "Tying Eastmont for second in the league and having three golfers make the All-League Team is something all of the girls should be proud of."

Wenatchee took first at Black Rock Creek with a team total 372. Eastmont was second with 409, Moses Lake third at 427, and Eisenhower forth at 510. Davis and Sunnyside didn't field enough golfers to qualify for a team score.

Mikayla Chavez shot the low round for the Chiefs with a 99. Megan O'Neil carded 105, Terrin Utter turned in a 108, Maddie Tudor had a 115, and Katrina Ulnick finished with a 123.

Wenatchee's Carly Bozett was low round medalist on the day with an 81.

The CBBN All-League Team was announced Friday and three Chiefs made the cut.

Utter was named First-Team All-League, Chavez and O'Neil were voted Second-Team All-League.

"I am very excited about this," Brown said. "This is a first for Moses Lake girls golf."

The District Big 9 4A Tournament tees off tomorrow at the Par 73 course at the Wenatchee Country Club. The top 6 finishers qualify for State.

"Realistically there are probably eight or nine girls vying for the six spots," Brown said. "Wenatchee and Davis has a girl each who'll most likely make it, so that leaves four spots for our girls to try and slide into."
