COLUMBIA, South Carolina - Moses Lake High School graduate Shelby Gonzales belted a two-run home run with two outs in the fourth inning to lead the University of South Carolina Gamecocks (31-22) to a 2-1 win in the second game of a doubleheader over No. 2 ranked Florida (49-7) May 4.

The senior, playing in her last game at Carolina's Softball Stadium at Becham Field, drove an 0-1 pitch over the wall in left field for the come-from-behind win. The victory over the Gators snapped a 28-game losing streak to Florida that dates back to 2003.

The win puts the Gamecocks in a match up with the Kentucky Wildcats in the first round of the SEC Tournament that gets underway in Lexington today.

Gonzales graduated from Moses Lake High School in 2009. She plays catcher for South Carolina.

Gonzales spent two seasons at North Idaho College where she set several records, and received academic honors at both NIC and South Carolina.

Gonzales earned a degree in psychology at USC, and will remain in South Carolina to pursue her masters degree.

Shelby is the daughter of Rolando and Korrine Gonzales.
