Decision delayed on trying Moses Lake boy as adult

EPHRATA - No decision has been made on whether the 14-year-old Moses Lake boy accused of allegedly shooting his parents in March will be tried as an adult.

Deputy Prosecutor Kevin McCrae and defense attorney Lyliane Couture asked for more time to conduct interviews with experts in a hearing this week. The next hearing is scheduled for June 3.

The boy was charged with two counts of first-degree attempted murder after he allegedly shot his parents while they slept on March 8.

According to the police report, the boy allegedly took a .22 caliber pistol from a locked gun case, loaded it and waited around 90 minutes before walking into his parent's bedroom and shooting them,

The boy was reportedly upset after he was grounded. As a result, he was restricted from playing video games and using electronic devices.

The boy's parents, Jon and Elizabeth Brooks, of Moses Lake, survived the shooting and were transported to an out-of-area hospital.

Since the arrest, the court ruled the boy's parents can visit him in the juvenile detention center, but they cannot discuss the case and must be under supervision.
