MOSES LAKE - Vendors at the Moses Lake Farmer's Market say more than 100 Basin residents visited McCosh Park on Saturday for the market's opening day.

Heather Reich, of Made in Moses Lake, said dozens of people were at the park ready to shop right when the market opened at 7:30 a.m. A steady flow of customers continued throughout the day, she said.

"I was surprised, there were more people than I expected," Reich said.

She said the crowds usually come later in the summer when more fresh produce is available. However, customers seemed to enjoy the various booths selling specialty food items and crafts, she said.

"It's going well, so hopefully this is a good sign for rest of the season," Reich said.

Tina Morales, of Villa's Produce, said more people were at McCosh Park Saturday compared to previous opening weekends.

Morales has sold asparagus from her family's farm in Eltopia at the Moses Lake market for about eight years. She said she was able to sell more asparagus, faster, during this year's opening day.

"I'm almost out," she said.

Morales said she enjoys interacting with the people who visit the Moses Lake market. She said she is looking forward to the increase in foot traffic.

"I love it here, there's such a friendly environment," she said. Although the Pasco Farmer's Market is close to the farm's operations, the Moses Lake market is more enjoyable, Morales said.

The Moses Lake Farmer's Market will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays until October 26. For more information, visit www.moseslakefarmersmarket.com.
