Chiefs soccer drops match to Sunnyside

SUNNYSIDE - Three losses in a row have the Chiefs backing into the district playoffs that get underway in Wenatchee May 7.

But nonetheless, Moses Lake (4-6,7-7) has qualified for the post season, and all it takes is one win to turn things around to build the needed momentum to make a deep run in the tournament.

"We've been in every match this season ... our losses have only been by a goal or two," coach Bill Bertram said. "Our hard work at the beginning of the season allowed us to get off to a good start ... we've had some late season injuries that have led to some of our losses, but we are healing up and we're ready to get after it in Wenatchee Tuesday."

The Chiefs latest defeat came in a 2-1 loss on the road at Sunnyside Saturday.

The Grizzlies got on the board first on a goal by Oswaldo Lopez (Noe Meza) 25 minutes into the contest. It was the only score of the first half of play.

Meza made it 2-0 on an unassisted goal at the 42nd minute of action.

Rehn Reilly got Moses Lake on the board at the 65 minute mark to close the gap to 2-1, but the Chiefs could get no closer and dropped the game.

"We let in two soft goals ... had a couple of breakdown defensively, but they are fixable," Bertram said. "We had a chance to tie the match, but missed a penalty shot."

The Chiefs keeper Grant Brunell had four saves in the match. The Grizzlies Max Ramos finished with four as well.

Moses Lake is back on the pitch Tuesday evening for a first round loser out district match against Eastmont (7-3, 11-4) at the Apple Bowl in Wenatchee a 6 p.m.

"Eastmont is beatable," Bertram said. "We're ready to roll."
