BBCC softball splits games with CBC

MOSES LAKE - The Lady Vikings rebounded from back-to-back home losses to Walla Walla Friday with a come-from-behind 6-5 win over Columbia Basin College (CBC) in the first game of a twin bill at home Saturday.

The Hawks got on the board first with two runs in the top of the second innings to take an early 2-0 lead. Big Bend responded with four in the bottom of the frame to go up 4-2.

CBC evened things 4-4 with two runs in the top of the third. The Lady Vikings answered back with two in the bottom of the frame to retake the lead 6-4. A Hawks run in the top of the fifth closed the gap to 6-5, but that's all the closer CBC could get as the visitors from Pasco dropped the game.

Leyna Downing went the distance in the circle, giving up five runs off eight hits while striking out three Hawks.

Halee Edulblute had the hot stick for BBCC going two-for-three at the plate with a two-run home run, three RBI and two runs scored.

Game 2 of the twin bill was close at the onset as neither team scored in the first two innings. But a run in the top of the third, four in the fourth and one in the top of the fifth put the Hawks out front 6-0.

The Vikings got two back in the bottom of the fifth to make a game of it, 6-2. Three runs in the top of the sixth increased the Hawks lead to 9-2.

BBCC threaten with three runs in the bottom of the inning, but that was all the offense the Vikings could muster. CBC put one more on the board in the top of the seventh, then held BBCC scoreless in the team's last at bat to ice the game, 10-5.

Adrianna Zamarron went one-for three at the plate for BBCC with a three-run home run and three RBI. Nicole Cameron was hit with the loss for the Vikings.

Big Bend finishes out the regular season at home Saturday with a twin bill against Community Colleges of Spokane. The first game is scheduled to start at noon.
