Two injured in 2-car collision

OTHELLO – Two men from Othello were injured on April 22 when one of them drove his car into the pathway of the other near here, the Washington State Patrol reports.

The collision occurred on Highway 26, one mile west of Othello at around 4 p.m. Neither drugs nor alcohol were a factor, the WSP said Both men were transported to hospitals.

According to the WSP, Basilio Juarez, 31, of Othello entered Highway 26 from a private drive in his 2005 Dodge Stratus. It was struck by a 1992 Jeep Wrangler owned by Kevin L. DeGroot, 41, of Othello.

The force of the collision was such that both vehicles were totaled. They were removed from the scene by Oscar's Towing.

Both drivers were wearing safety restraints but were injured. DeGroot was taken to Othello Community Hospital. Juarez was airlifted to Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane.
