Moses Lake hires volleyball coach
Shayla Blevins takes over the helm of the Moses Lake High School varsity volleyball program.
MOSES LAKE - Shayla Blevins is the new head volleyball coach at Moses Lake High School. She takes over the helm of the program from Amy Utter who resigned at the end of last season to spend more time with family.
"We are pleased to announce Shayla's hiring," Athletic Director Loren Sandhop said. "She was a 2008 Moses Lake graduate, a three-year starter (at the setter position) on the varsity volleyball team, and was an assistant coach for Amy last season. She knows our kids, and brings with her a lot of energy and passion. We hope to be able to surround her with good assistant coaches."
Blevins was born and raised in Moses Lake. She played four years of collegiate volleyball at East Central Oklahoma University. She graduated last year. This is her initial head coaching position.
"I'm a little nervous, but very excited for the opportunity," Blevins said. "It's kind of a surreal experience to come back and coach at Moses Lake High School, but I am confident and looking forward to getting started."
Blevins has a degree in Elementary Education and is currently a substitute teacher in the Moses Lake School District.
