ROYAL CITY - Royal School District Superintendent Rose Search admitted to having an emotionally up-and-down week last week waiting for the results of the school construction bond election.

On Tuesday Search received word the bond was failing with 57.63 percent of the vote. The next day she received an e-mail from the county saying that the bond had edged ahead with 60.06 percent. On Friday the vote was still the same.

Still, the bond election is a squeaker once again. There are still 20 or so votes that have not been counted for various reasons. Those votes will determine the election.

"Needless to say, I have had some sleepless nights and can't wait until May 7, when the bond will be validated," Search said. "I am very optimistic and can't wait to hear that the bond has passed and we can begin the process of moving forward."

The district is planning a construction project of about $14 million that will ease crowding in the schools and modernize or modernization is needed.
