Moses Lake drops match to Eastmont

MOSES LAKE - It was a cool overcast spring evening when the Chiefs and Wildcats faced off in Columbia Basin Big Nine soccer action at Lions Field Tuesday.
Moses Lake was intent on ending its two-game losing streak and get back in the thick of things in the league standings.
But Eastmont had another thing in mind as the team from East Wenatchee turned back the Chiefs 2-1.
The game got off to a slow start offensive-wise as both teams failed to score in the first 31 minutes of the contest. Moses Lake missed its first opportunity to put a ball in the Wildcat box at the 29 minute mark as a shot by A.J. Montes bounced off the right post.
But Andrew Camren made good on the Chiefs next attempt as he tickled the back of the Eastmont net with eight and a half minutes left in the first half to put Moses Lake up 1-0.
The lead held up until the Wildcats scored from 30-yards out four minutes into the second half of action to the game 1-1.
It looked as though the match would go to overtime, but a goal by Eastmont with three minutes left in extended play sealed the victory for the visiting team, 2-1.
The loss to the Wildcats drops the Chiefs to 4-5 in the league standing and 7-6 overall with one game left in the regular season.
Moses Lake gets a chance to right the ship Saturday and build momentum for the district playoffs when the team heads to Sunnyside to take on the Grizzlies.
