Girls track back from invite

KIRKLAND - Moses Lake girls track traveled to Kirkland Saturday to participate in the 37th annual Lake Washington Invitational and came away with a 13th place finish out of 47 schools that competed at the event.

"I thought the girls had a really good meet," coach Nicki Weiland said. "This was the first time there for us. It was an exciting time. I'd go back again. The girls learned a lot."

Senior Sadie Nielsen was the top performer for the Chiefs. She placed first in the discus with a throw of 135-11, and 7th (35-09.25) in the shot put competition. Alysha Overland showed why she belongs among the top athletes at any meet with a fourth place finish (45.82) in the 300 hurdles. Taylor Yamane took 18th with a time of 48.95. Yamane also placed 19th in the 100 hurdles with a finish time of 16.65.

The 4x100 relay team of Kayla Grigg, Caylah Lunning, Stephanie Overland and London Cleverly took 7th (50.63), and the 200 relay team of Cleverly, Arlena Hannan and Stephanie and Alysha Overland finished 8th with a time of 1:48.33. Cleverly also placed 31st (28.06) in the 200 meter run, and 23rd (1:01.92) in the 400. Grigg placed 17th (94-08) in the javelin competition, and in the high jump it was Selina Koon clearing 4-08.00 to place 20th in the event.

Moses Lake track is back in action May 2 when the girls and boys teams travel to Yakima to compete against Eisenhower in the last Big 9 meet of the year at Zaepfel Stadium.

The first day of the district track meet gets under May 16 in East Wenatchee at Eastmont Stadium. The start time has yet to be determined.
