Warden soccer shuts out Wahluke

MATTAWA - Richardo Araujo recorded his second goal of the season in the 78th minute of action against Wahluke Tuesday to give Warden a 1-0 win over the Warriors.

"It was a very defensive game for both teams that was played on a very hot day," coach Ed Aguilar said. "And after nearly 80 minutes of running, we know the team to score first would win the game."

The lone score of the match came with just two minutes left when Orlando Alba out ran the Wahluke defense and passed the ball to Araujo who rocketed a hard shot past the Warrior keeper.

Warden ended the match with 14 shots on frame to the Warriors 10.

"It was another solid game my back four and my keeper (Osbaldo Alba)," Aguilar said. "Saul Hinojoza, Arturo Dias and Ricardo Morales had their best game of the season. This is the first time we've won in Wahluke, and that feels very good. I'm very proud of the guys for the effort they put in to win the game."

The victory over the Warriors improves the Cougars to 4-2 in 1A SCAC East play. Warden is out of action over spring break, but resumes play April 6 at Mabton.
