Easter egg hunts coming this weekend

MOSES LAKE - Children in the Columbia Basin will have the opportunity to hunt for Easter eggs this weekend in several local communities.

The Moses Lake Lions Club will host its annual Easter egg hunt at noon Saturday at McCosh Park in Moses Lake. The annual event typically draws more than 2,000 people, according to past Lions Club president Tom Hinde.

The Lions Club will hide 450 dozen eggs and 150 dozen candy-filled eggs for Saturday's event. Some of the eggs will also contain tickets for prizes, according to organizers.

The event is made possible by different civic, public and private groups. Willamette Egg Farms provides the non-plastic eggs at a discounted price and the Columbia Basin Herald pays for the eggs. This week, students with the Columbia Basin Job Corps have been busy coloring the eggs.

Children should bring their own baskets for the hunt. There will be five hunting areas at the event, so kids can search for eggs with others in their age group. The Easter bunny will also be at the Moses Lake egg hunt.

Ephrata

In Ephrata, teens can join the fun during the Parks and Recreation Department's flashlight Easter egg hunt at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Lions Park. Students in grades six through 12 can participate in the free hunt, but they must bring valid student identification to the event. Students will need to bring a basket or bag for collecting eggs and a flashlight. Prizes include two iTunes gift cards, two iPod Shuffles and two iPod Nanos, according to organizers.

The Rotary Club of Ephrata will also host an egg hunt in Ephrata this weekend. The group's annual hunt is set for 1 p.m. Saturday at Lions Park. Children up to fourth grade are eligible to participate.

Warden

In Warden, an Easter egg hunt is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at the Warden High School football field. The hunt is open to children in pre-school to fifth grade.

The Easter bunny will be present at the hunt, according to organizers. Participants are also encouraged to bring canned food items to the hunt. Organizers will donate the food to the Warden Food Pantry.

Quincy

In Quincy, Magler Farms will hold its annual Easter egg hunt and color event at noon Saturday. The event takes place at 2569 Road R NW. There will be separate hunting areas for different age groups. Kids can also play games, take pony rides and win prizes.

George

The Georgettes will sell cakes, cookies and other baked goods during their annual Easter egg hunt and bake sale at George Community Hall at 8 a.m. Saturday. The egg hunt begins at 9 a.m. at the George Community Park and children ages 1 to 10 can participate. Children must bring their own basket or bag for the hunt.

Soap Lake

Younger children can enjoy egg hunting without having to compete with older kids during the Frances Asker Memorial Easter egg hunt at John's Foods in Soap Lake. The hunt takes place at 7:30 a.m. Saturday.

Toddlers and kids up to second grade can participate. Candy-filled eggs will be hidden in plain sight inside the store. There will also be an Easter bunny present.

A second Soap Lake egg hunt is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Sunday at the Soap Lake RV Resort at the north end of the lake.
