Quincy, Warden split games

QUINCY - The Cougars hit the road to Quincy Saturday looking to earn a split at the very least in 1A doubleheader action against the Jacks.

And that's precisely what happened as the home team got by Warden 10-9 in game one, and the Cougars shut out the Jacks 19-0 in game two.

The first game of the twin bill was a real donnybrook that saw the lead change hands four times. The Jacks got on the board first with 2 runs in the bottom of the first inning. Warden answered back with 4 in the top of the second to go up 4-2. The score held up until Quincy tied the game 4-4 in the bottom of the third.

The Cougars responded with 4 runs in the top of the fourth to go back up top, 8-4. A run in the bottom of the fifth and 5 in the bottom of the sixth allowed the Jacks to regain the lead 10-8.

Warden added a run in the top of the seventh, but couldn't get any closer and dropped the game 10-9.

Gabriel Pruneda had the hot bat for the Cougars going 2-for-3 at the plate with a run scored. Emilio Pruneda had 2 hits in 4 at bats with a run scored, and TJ Kissler and Louie Reyes finished with 2 RBI each. Reyes was pegged for the loss, giving up 6 runs off 1 hit, 1 error and 6 walks.

Quincy was led by Dallas Bassett who was 1-for-2 with 3 runs scored. Mark Horning was the winning pitcher of record for the Jacks.

Louie Reyes just missed hitting for the cycle in the second game of the twin bill, going 4-for-5 with two singles, a double and a triple and 7 RBI in the lopsided win over the Jacks. Jerry Reyes who pitched a 1-hit shutout for the Cougars had 3 hits in three plate appearances with 3 runs scored and 3 RBI.

Nick Lopez got the only hit of the game for Quincy. Titus Berndt took the loss for the Jacks.

Warden was back in action Tuesday to host a doubleheader against Liberty, but the results were not available at press time. The Jacks were back on the diamond Tuesday as well when the team hosted a single game against Cashmere.
