Chiefs girls runner-up at Ray Cross Invite

EPHRATA - Moses Lake track posted some impressive marks at the annual Ray Cross Invitational at Ephrata High School Saturday.

The Chiefs entered a field of 30 teams and proved to be some of the best athletes at the competition.

"We had one of our highest meet scores for the girls and boys  teams in many years," coach Nicki Weiland said. "The Girls placed second with 136 points right behind Richland who had 151 points for the meet, and the boys placed sixth with  36 points."

Girls

Diamond Ransom set the pace early for Moses Lake in the individual events with a first place finish in the 100-meter dash, breaking the tape at 13.18 seconds.

Stephanie Overland complimented her performance taking third in the 200 with a finish time of 27.56. In the 400 it was London Cleverly (1:03.17) placing sixth and Arlena Hannan (1:03.59), seventh. Megan Roughan took eighth (2:35.52) in the 800 and finished ninth (5:52.76) in the 1600.

Taylor Yamane had an outstanding meet at the hurdles, placing first in the 100 with a time of 17.30, and second in the 300 at 50.54. Alysha Overland was the top placer in the 300 hurdles with a time of 48.36. Hannan placed seventh in the 100 crossing the finish line at 18.10.

Sadie Nielsen bested the competition in the discus (124-08) and the shot (35-11.50), Selina Koon took first in long jump (16-09.50), second in high jump (5-00), and triple jump (32-03). Stephanie Overland was second in long jump with a leap of 16-05.50, and Casci Carpenter (31-10) placed sixth in the triple jump.

In the team competition, it was a clean sweep for the girls in all three relay events. The Chiefs Cleverly, Ransom, Yamane and Alysha Overland took first in the 4x100 with a time of 50.84. Cleverly, Ransom and Stephanie and Alysha Overland were tops in the 200 finishing at 1:47.38. And in the 400 it was Cleverly, Hannan, Alysha and Stephanie Overland crossing the finish line first at 4:08.82

"I was so proud of the effort from all the girls ... it was a total team effort," Weiland said. "Each meet someone new is surprising us (coaches) with new marks and performances."

Boys 

Cameron Law who cleared 14 feet in the pole vault, which was good enough for a first-place finish, was the top performer for the boys.  Brooks Milbrandt  placed fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.32. Lowell Kirkwood's time of 2:02.17 landed the senior in second place in the 800.

Alek Schweisow took fourth in the 1600 with a time of 4:41.12, and Dylan Darlington finished fourth in the 3200 crossing the line at 10:07.14.

Moses Lake is out of action during spring break, but resumes competition April 6 for a league meet at Davis High School.
