Kenneth "Cal" R. Calvert, 70, a longtime Moses Lake resident passed away Friday, March 22, 2013 at Samaritan Hospital. No services are planned. Please sign the online guestbook or leave a note for the family at www.kayserschapel.com. Arrangements are in care of Kayser's Chapel & Crematory.

Cal was born on November 29, 1942 in Tacoma, Washington son of the late George and Martha Calvert. He served in the U.S. Navy and coming out of the Navy he worked as an electrician with his brother for a few years. He married Margaret "Adele" Luxton in 1969 and they have lived their entire married life in Moses Lake. In 1975, Cal went to work as an electrician for Big Bend Community College where he worked until his retirement in 2005.

In the 1990s, Cal began flint knapping. Knapping is the shaping of flint or other stone to manufacture or replicate artifacts. Cal replicated Indian artifacts and annually held "Knapp Ins" where many people from the northwest would come and learn to knapp or share their reproduced artifacts. In earlier years, Cal also enjoyed making model boats, submarines, rockets and handmade knives.

Cal is survived by his wife, Adele Calvert; a sister, Elaine Osborne; one brother, Jerry Calvert; one son, James Young; and one daughter, Jeri Young. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, George, Jr. He will be remembered fondly for his cutting wit and sense of humor.
